In 2024 I decided to explore the usage of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) to expand my photography tool kit. I don’t like the term “Drone” as it feels somewhat military, and I like to think of the device as a “Flying Camera” , which is basically what it is. I studied hard and obtained my FAA Part 107 UAS Pilot Certification, so that I understand the many safety aspects of this activity and so that I can use my Flying Camera to support my Real Estate Photography business. The ability to take photos or videos a mile away on essentially a 400 foot tall tripod is utterly amazing. I decided to explore new perspectives by using a drone to photograph Seabrook Island marshes and beaches. The aerial shots capture the unseen beauty of the landscape from above, showcasing the intricate patterns of the marsh grass and the stunning contrast between the sandy shores, our sculpted mud flats, the pulsing tides and the serpentine flows of water into and out of the local salt marshes surrounding Seabrook Island. We all know that the marshes surrounding the island we call home are beautiful, but when you can get up a few hundred feet and gaze down at them, it opens up an entirely new appreciation of the complexity. I hope you can enjoy some of these views.
