I love live music and going to see musicians I love play live. For whatever the reason, the atmosphere is electric and the memory imprint is relatively permanent. I’ve missed a lot of great shows in the Houston area over the last year due to travel and other commitments.
On Nov 09, 2019, I got a chance to go see Dinosaur Jr and Kurt Vile live at White Oak Music Hall, which is a great venue to catch as show. Because I’m an aggressive defensive lineman, I was able to get right down front on the rail. These bands are both “guitar centric” but in different ways. I’ve been a Dinosaur Jr fan for nearly 30 years and even though J Mascis and Murph look like total OG’s now, they still rock. Lou Barlow still reminds me of Animal from Sesame Street just as he always has. I’ve seen Kurt Vile twice and he has a very low key slacker approach to his show, this show was no different.
I shot stills and video using my Sony RX100vi . Even though it’s not really a low light bomber, shooting wide open at F4.0 and 1/125 I was able to get some good shots as well as good 4K/1080p video. The youtube playsists are here:
